Plugged Nickel Playing Cards - Rusted Tin Deck
Description: Playing cards based on the Old West. And dead people. But mostly the Old West.
The Plugged Nickel Playing Cards are a limited-run, specialty deck of cards, printed by the USPCC. Everything about these cards is custom, from the barbed wire in the pips to the skeletal cowboys on the face cards. But if you look closely, they're not that far off from what you're expecting from a standard deck - except that the King of Hearts has a cavalry saber through his head, instead of a straight sword, and the one-eyed Jack of Hearts has an eyepatch and a stick of dynamite. There's a homesteader and a saloon girl, a gambler and a sheriff, a full cast of colorful - if slightly dead - characters.
The Old West feel doesn't stop at the face cards. Each fully-illustrated Ace in the Plugged Nickel Playing Cards is composed of an animal skull framed in barbed wire, and the Jokers are the flip sides of a buffalo nickel with a hole shot right through it. You know, a plugged nickel. The deck includes a double-backer, and the ad card has been replaced with an art card. Custom pips are easily readable, but thoroughly Western, with barbed wire twisting around inside them.
The Rusted Tin deck allows the line art to shine. The background is rough, aged metal, faded back to provide a gritty frame for the drawings on the cards. Most of the colors have been leached out, allowing you to get a good luck at the art. Subtle textures replace flat color, retaining all the Old West feel with a subdued, well-worn look.
The Rusted Tin deck of the Plugged Nickel Playing Cards was printed in a limited run of 1,000 decks.
